Ansel’s world is falling apart. The Nightshade pack led by his parents has been violently destroyed. His sister, Calla, abandoned her little brother, leaving him to answer for her crimes. And the Haldis pack that would have been his future is irreparably broken by Calla's betrayal. Suffering at the hands of the Keepers, Ansel is losing everything he's ever loved. The only chance he has to save himself means an alliance with his tormentors, and repaying Calla in full for her treachery.

Treachery A Nightshade Novella A Penguin eSpecial from Philomel Books eBook Andrea Cremer

If you loved the Nightshade series as much as I did, you are also probably just as anxious for the prequel series to be released in August. I know this little eBook came out before the final book in the series, Bloodrose, but it can really be read anywhere after the first book, Nightshade. However, it gives vital information about the second book, Wolfsbane, making it best read after the second book. Still, having finished the final book in the original series, it wasn't a waste for me. It gave a different perspective to a part of the story that was hard to read about and hard to accept.

When Callie runs away with Shay, she knows she has left behind. What she doesn't know is she has abandoned her brother to a fate worse than any of them could imagine- a life without his wolf half. Captured by the Keepers and the other pack, Ansel is left to suffer both his own grief and the torture at the hands of the Keepers and wraiths. But they have a solution for him that might return everything he lost. The only catch is he has to betray the one person he loves unconditionally.

This bridge story from Ansel's perspective really illuminated things for me. I remember this part of the series when Ansel betrayed Callie, but seeing it from his perspective makes you pity him, not want to smack him silly like I did when his motives were first exposed. I liked this little novella a lot and was happy Cremer put it out there. It satisfied my need for Nightshade at least for a few moments! Now I REALLY need the next series to start!

Treachery A Nightshade Novella A Penguin eSpecial from Philomel Books eBook Andrea Cremer Reviews

I enjoyed the Nightshade series so I got this novella. It is an interesting read but doesn't drastically add to the plot.
Nice. Andrea does a wonderful job giving us this novella from Ansel's point of view. It explains why he does what he does. We get a real feel for how Ansel, Ren and the others have been played. How torn apart Ansel is without his wolf is so clearly displayed. My heart was breaking. Can't wait for Tuesday and BLOODROSE to see where this ends up.
Andrea Cremer, all of her books rate number one in my collection of books. She has such a perfect outlook at every that happens. The Nightshade series is the best I have ever read, but I am hoping that there is more related to Nightshade as she produces more books. Like maybe have Shay and Calla have pups or something along that sort. Really awesome, just outstanding in what she writes.
This book was really really tiny. Which I usually hate but since there was so much background it was awesome!
I personally loved all three books and I'm very excited to read the 4th one when it comes out. I always wondered what happen to Ansel while he was locked up and now I know. I hope they do decide to make a movie out of this because it will me bigger and better than twilight!!!! This is the first book to make my eyes ball( I loved it and it's a 100000 star series book. Everyone should read it even if you're not a fan of reading I wasn't but now I might have to change that answer;);)
5 stars. Great characters, great storyline, great romance, great adventure. I love this series. Highly recommended. Enjoy. so worth it for a little glimpse.
Stumbled upon this moments before I was going to read Bloodrose, so thought I would read it beforehand! It was a short little read, so this will be a short little review!

Treachery is called book 2.5 in the Nightshade novels. It takes place probably nearly right after Nightshade, but more of the story happens during Wolfsbane. And as the description says we are in Ansel's head and we see and experience everything he felt and saw after Calla deserted the pack. Of course we know Calla's reasons for that, but now we get to see how Ansel felt.

Ansel basically wasn't too thrilled. He is as far down the ladder as one can get, and when an opportunity to rise a step comes up, even though it's from the enemy, he takes it. As we already know.

Regardless, I thought it was an interesting story. I like novellas that take place between books and we get to see what's happening elsewhere with the other characters. What Ansel did obviously was wrong, but now we can see the reasons why he chose to do what he did.

So overall it was a nice little read. Interesting as well. And it does help tell more of the story of Wolfsbane from his p.o.v. The only issue I had was that it was a little too short! Yes, it's a novella, but I wanted more! I was getting so wrapped up in Ansel's story before I knew it, it was over and there was a sneak peek of Bloodrose, yet I had it at my side and just immediately turned to that!

Overall rating 3.5/5 stars
